Tuesday, February 19, I’m doing something I haven’t done in over 10 years.
I’m going back to working full-time!
When Carson was born, we made the decision for me to stay home. Even though my paralegal job paid well, paying almost $1,000 per month for childcare was a pill we just couldn’t swallow.
It was not always easy- living on just one full-time income. My husband just entered his 20th year at NBC-13 as a photojournalist. He works long, crazy hours. Travels all over and is gone from home a lot.
I actually only stayed home for a few months, and over the last 10 years have had several part-time jobs and lots of freelance jobs. I taught classes at Gymboree Learn & Play, had two more stints at the Birmingham News, worked as an assistant for a photography studio and worked for a web design/marketing firm.
Since the end of November 2017, I’ve been doing only freelance writing and social media management. In December 2018, I made the leap to form an LLC, create a business name and just be in business for myself.
I’ve been praying for sometime for an opportunity for me to do what I love, make more money and still be able to be home with my kids after school each day.
Then it happened. God’s timing. The exact newspaper I’ve been doing freelance work for almost four years had a full-time community reporter opening covering the 280 corridor.
I had a phone interview, an in person interview and then a job offer!
After Morgan was born, I was able to be home with her like I was with Carson, and I have treasured my time with both of them. She heads to Kindergarten this August, and I had always said I planned to go back to work full-time after she started school.
That’s just six months away, but I’m going to be able to do the exact job I want and be home in the afternoons after school. I am so thankful and grateful and excited.
